The square, ultra-stable, waterproof wallbox wins the prestigious International Forum (iF) award

Juice Technology AG, manufacturer of charging stations and software, and leader in mobile charging stations for electric vehicles, is the winner of this year's iF Design Award with the JUICE CHARGER me 3.

The JUICE CHARGER me 3 is not only very popular with customers, but is also the new favorite of design experts. After the aesthetic wallbox was already awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2022, it has now also won one of the highest design awards at an international level - the iF Design Award 2022.

No fewer than 10,776 products and projects applied for this year's iF Design Award. From this record number, a high-caliber international, independent group of 132 design experts shortlisted 5,426 submissions. In the final round, each entry was assessed, discussed and graded by a jury based on five criteria. The JUICE CHARGER me 3 was chosen as the winner of the iF Design Award 2022 in the Automobiles/Motor Vehicles category.

Christoph Erni, CEO and founder of Juice, is delighted with the award: "Our development and design teams at Juice always want to outdo themselves. Following the example of Bauhaus architecture, minimal form and maximum function merge to create a timeless result that you only have to buy once in your life. This passion is visible in the product and should also inspire users. Nothing less than that is what our customers deserve. Anything else would be an insult - unfortunately there are plenty of examples of this."

The wall charging station was evaluated in a transparent, structured process and in terms of idea, form, function, brand differentiation and impact. With its simple square shape with clear lines and elegant curves, the JUICE CHARGER me 3 particularly appeals to the target group that expects pioneering technology and appealing aesthetics. It is precisely the design that makes the charging station extremely functional, absolutely safe (IP67 and IK10), easy to use and therefore extremely user-friendly. The high-quality, minimalist appearance takes the charging station to a new design level and makes it not only functional but also visually part of the vehicle. In addition, the well-thought-out construction allows the front glass to be easily personalized for major customers without the overall design losing its impact. "For us, high-quality design does not stop with the electric car," continues Christoph Erni. The resource-saving construction and the ability to provide over-the-air updates prove the future viability of the device, which in turn takes sustainability into account.

This aspect in particular is also welcomed by the jury: "It is inspiring to see that there are signs of more sustainable approaches in design - sustainability is the new luxury. Which means that some of the old ambitions are being replaced by new and meaningful aspirations," says Stina Nilimaa Wickström, Vice President Volvo Group Design, Sweden.

The most important advantages of the JUICE CHARGER me 3 at a glance:

    1. Plug and Play: The wallbox is completely preconfigured at the factory and ready for immediate use.
    2. Plug and Charge: The JUICE CHARGER me 3 already supports ISO 15118. When connected to the charging socket, the charging station automatically recognizes every registered car that already has the Plug and Charge standard and starts the charging process directly.
    3. Charging and load management: Local dynamic charging management in master-slave operation is included free of charge for up to 250 charging stations.
    4. Small format: The JUICE CHARGER me 3 is particularly compact with an edge length of 28 cm and a depth of 12.5 cm and also very light, weighing just 6.5 kg (including cable). 5 m of cable ensure the necessary flexibility.
    5. Charging power: Single to three-phase charging with six to 32 amps results in a charging power of up to 22 kW. The standard version delivered ex works with a power output of 11 kW can be upgraded to 22 kW using software.
    6. Equipped for public areas: The JUICE CHARGER me 3 is optionally available with a MID-certified (calibrated) meter and optionally with a built-in FI/LS (residual current/circuit breaker) – prepared for direct connection to busbars or ribbon cables.
    7. Connectivity: The standardized Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP 1.5/1.6) forms the backbone for the connection to the JUICE EXO (or backends and building management systems from third-party providers) and enables device management, remote maintenance, billing or load management. Three standardized interfaces (Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU and EEBUS) ensure communication with a home energy management system. This allows the photovoltaic system to be integrated into the home energy management and external load management control. External communication takes place either via the Ethernet connection (LAN, RJ45) or the integrated WLAN receiver. However, for use as a private individual charging station, no permanent network connection is required and operation is therefore also possible without a LAN connection. In this case, a notebook can simply be connected for updates.
    8. Well thought-out and safe design: The JUICE CHARGER me 3 has a front made of scratch-resistant acrylic glass (PMMA) printed on the inside. The outer casing and the base of the inner casing are made of a composite plastic consisting of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). ABS is characterized by good impact, scratch and abrasion resistance as well as resistance to oils and grease. The composite material is extremely stable, flame-retardant and certified UV-resistant. The transparent cover of the inner casing is made of impact-resistant polycarbonate (PC). The base and cover are screwed together and form a tightly sealed system. This means that the charger is protected against the ingress of dirt and moisture according to IP67, highly shock-resistant according to IK10 and therefore suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The device can be used at outside temperatures between -30°C and +50°C. Its temperature sensor for reducing the charging current works independently of the ambient temperature. The charging station is CE-compliant according to the two EMC guidelines IEC 61851 and IEC 61439-7.
    9. Installation: The JUICE CHARGER me 3 can be mounted on the wall as a wall box - surface-mounted or flush-mounted (with a supply line from behind). Since all the electronics are housed on a back plate and are therefore independent of the housing, it is possible to mount the charging station rotated by 180° and connect it to a supply line coming from above. The device can also be mounted individually or in pairs on a pedestal.
    10. Activation: An RFID reader (MIFARE Classic/Desfire) is integrated behind the front panel. Activation via RFID is for all cars that do not support the ISO standard 15118 for 'Plug and Charge'. The two pre-programmed cards supplied can be easily blocked and replaced if lost. Alternatively, existing RFID badges (for example from access or canteen systems) can also be read and authorized by the customer.
    11. Price: JUICE CHARGER me 3 in the basic version: CHF/EUR 1199,-; with MID counter 1499,-; with MID counter and FI/LS 2142,- / Stele: CHF/EUR 499,- / Replacement glass: CHF/EUR 49,-; Front glass Juice Style line: from CHF/EUR 59,-. All prices include VAT.
