The world's smallest mobile charging station is now available

Juice Technology AG, manufacturer of charging stations and software, leader in mobile charging stations for electric vehicles, launched the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air as another highlight of its product portfolio on Juice World Charging Day 2022. In addition to the previously known possible uses as a mobile charging station, wall box and Type 2 charging cable, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air already has charging and load management as well as access management on board and can be remotely controlled and monitored via the j+ pilot app.

As the first device in the j+ series, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air has intelligent, interface-friendly firmware that makes it compatible with other j+ charging stations. Another special feature: The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air can be controlled via the universal app j+ pilot.

7-in-1 and comprehensive connectivity

As a 7-in-1 solution, it offers the tried-and-tested range of functions as a wall box, mobile charging station and charging cable (3-in-1), but also has the complete j+ scope. This promises a comprehensive range of functions: activation, monitoring and control of the charging processes as well as the integrated dynamic load management smartJUICE for up to ten units. The digital electricity meter provides information about the amount of energy charged and allows easy allocation of the charged electricity. These functions are all controlled via the j+ pilot app.

The Type 2 plug with control panel, JUICE CONTROLLER, specially developed for the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air, has an integrated RFID reader and a programmable button. This allows the permitted current to be adjusted in the first 30 seconds (similar to the Select button on the booster). After that, it can be used to unlock the plug if the car allows it.

Two wireless connections ensure stable communication: After onboarding via Bluetooth, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air connects to the j+ pilot app via the cloud. This means that the charging station does not need a GSM connection for its smart functions and therefore no SIM card. This means that the user does not incur any unnecessary or hidden costs.

Maximum charging safety

The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air is slimmer and lighter than the JUICE BOOSTER 2, but of course has all the well-known safety features. With a wheel load of up to three tons, it is drive-over safe and fully compliant with the applicable guidelines. It is also waterproof according to IP67 and protected against dirt and environmental influences. The protection function against direct and alternating current faults is already integrated and makes the installation of an expensive FI-B circuit breaker on the house installation unnecessary.

The mobile wallbox recognizes more than ten different types of errors. Every error message is shown in plain text directly on the LED display on the booster. Even external errors are now clearly recognized. If the socket is wired incorrectly (error message "wiring") or the vehicle draws more power than allowed (error message "overload"), the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air recognizes this and refuses or immediately interrupts charging. The user can easily recognize the error via the display. The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air therefore also functions as a detector for network-side error sources and as protection against vehicle-side faults.

The patented and proven JUICE CELSIUS temperature monitoring system offers additional safety when charging from household sockets. The sensor built into the household adapter (Schuko, T12/T13, Type L and Type G) detects when the plug pins become too hot. If the socket overheats, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air reduces the charging process in a controlled manner and automatically continues it up to three times after it has cooled down, each time at a lower power level. This means that the household installation remains intact and the battery is still fully charged.

In future, an RFID reader will be used for access management. This is conveniently installed directly in the vehicle's Type 2 plug: simply holding up the charging card or a tag is enough to authorize the charging process. Unauthorized use is therefore impossible. Alternatively, Free Charge can also be configured without RFID authentication via mobile devices. Other functions such as the receipt function, time control and planning of charging processes will be gradually added.

The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air marks the start of a new product category and is a complement to the popular 3-in-1 solution JUICE BOOSTER 2. It measures less than 53 mm in diameter and less than 213 mm long and weighs around just 700 g (without cable). The mobile wallbox is slimmer than a 33 cl Coke can, making it the smallest and lightest mobile charger available on the market to date. The 11 kW charging station allows single to three-phase charging with up to 16 amps, which corresponds to the maximum charging power that over 90 percent of the vehicles currently available on the market can accommodate.

The Bigger Picture – the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air at a glance:

  1. Charging capacity: The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air is a fully-fledged mobile 11 kW charging station in a small format. It allows single to three-phase charging at six to 16 amps.
  2. Flexibility: With the adapters of the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air, the electric car can be charged at any conventional household and industrial socket worldwide. The Type 2 adapter also enables charging on public infrastructure. This means that a separate emergency charging cable is no longer required. With the associated holder, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air can also be used as a smart wall charging station.
  3. Automatic power detection : The charger is always set to the optimal charging power. This prevents overloading of sockets and supply cables.
  4. Error identification: The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air detects over ten different types of errors, including those originating from the supply line and the vehicle. These are displayed directly on the device via LED and are easy to read.
  5. Certified and compliant with standards: The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air is completely dust and waterproof (IP67) and can be driven over with a wheel load of up to three tons (IK10). It complies with the two EMC guidelines IEC 62752 and IEC 61851.
  6. Connectivity: The wireless networks Bluetooth and WLAN ensure comprehensive connection to the j+ pilot app and the j+ environment. Since the device can be updated over-the-air, it is not only possible to adapt it to all future requirements, but also to expand it with additional functions. This maximizes its future viability.
  7. smartJUICE: Cloud-based load management can be configured for up to ten devices using the j+ pilot app. The stations are easily recorded using the QR scanner in the app and connected to a group. To protect against overloading the house connection, a limit is set in advance for the power that can only be used for charging. If a vehicle is fully charged or goes off the grid, the charging power released is dynamically passed on to the other vehicles.
  8. Access management: An RFID reader is integrated into the vehicle's Type 2 plug for activation. Two RFID cards are included in the scope of delivery. In future, holding the charging card or a tag will be enough to activate the charging process. Unauthorized use is therefore impossible. Free Charge is configured ex works without RFID authentication via mobile devices.
  9. Cost control: The energy charged is recorded via the integrated digital electricity meter. A tariff can be assigned to each charging process in the app. This means you have the cost breakdown directly in the charging history.
  10. JUICE CONTROLLER: The programmable button built into the vehicle's Type 2 plug allows the current to be regulated in the first 30 seconds after plugging in. The charging process can then be stopped and, if permitted by the vehicle, the plug can be released again.
  11. Backwards compatible: There are over 30 different adapter plugs. All household and industrial plugs already developed for the JUICE BOOSTER 2 are also compatible with the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air. For Mode 3 charging at public charging stations, the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air and the JUICE BOOSTER 2 each have their own Type 2 adapter plug. There is no danger if the Type 2 plugs are mixed up. If the adapter plug of the JUICE BOOSTER 2 (32 A) is connected to the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air, the BOOSTER 3 air registers the error "socket" + "overload" and does not charge. Conversely, if the adapter plug of the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air (20 A) is connected to the JUICE BOOSTER 2, charging with a maximum of 20 amps is possible.
  12. Extension cables : There are 5 m and 10 m extension cables. Regardless of which JUICE BOOSTER they are intended for, they can be used with the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air. However, the extension cables of the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air are not compatible with the JUICE BOOSTER 2 because they are designed for 16 amps and are therefore much thinner and easier to handle.
