Charging while unloading: Commercial fleets efficiently charge clean water power

Juice Technology AG, manufacturer of charging stations and software, and leader in mobile charging stations for electric vehicles, offered an exciting themed program at the business event on the topic of hydropower and electromobility.

“Experience the power” was the motto of this year’s Juice Power summer event, which took place on July 1, 2023 on the Grimsel Pass, at 2,165 m above sea level. The event brought together industry experts, thought leaders and key stakeholders to exchange ideas on developments in e-mobility and the future of renewable energies.

Hanns Christoph Bauer, Managing Director at Juice Power and organizer of this year's event, points out the relevance of the venue for electromobility, which is closely linked to energy generation: "It is no coincidence that we chose the location of the meeting on the Grimsel, where the new construction of the dam - a construction site of the century - symbolizes the importance of hydropower as a sustainable form of energy generation and storage." During a guided tour, the participants received valuable insights into the potential of this clean, renewable energy source.

linking energy production and consumption

The highlight was an insightful keynote speech by renowned futurist Lars Thomsen, founder of future matters and board member of Juice. Thomsen discussed the latest trends in e-mobility, the future of sustainable travel and the global transition to renewable energies in a catchy manner: "Using fossil fuels as an energy source is - figuratively speaking - as efficient as pouring away three quarters of the very last bottle of exquisite wine before drinking the rest. The share of renewable energies will grow from 20 to 80 percent worldwide in just a few years. What is long overdue for reasons of common sense alone is now becoming reality for cost reasons. Because solar, wind and hydropower are becoming increasingly cheaper and primary energy comes from the sun for free."

One of the main topics of the event was "home charging" for fleet customers and its importance for the total cost of ownership. The stationary and portable wallboxes JUICE CHARGER me 3 and JUICE BOOSTER 3 air were presented with their specific application advantages as needs-based solutions for companies. At the same time, various models for the reimbursement of the charged energy were demonstrated, offering participants innovative approaches to managing and optimizing their charging infrastructure.

Charging while unloading: Focus on charging solutions for commercial vehicles

Practical charging solutions for electric commercial vehicles are a new field. What is needed here are flexible options for charging in the vehicle depot and during loading or unloading at the loading ramp. This is a focus point for Juice because the aim is to improve the efficiency and productivity of commercial electric fleets.

"Loading and unloading at the loading ramp is the number one efficiency killer, along with the hours of traffic jams. In the future, the downtime during loading should also be used to charge the vehicle battery. This also saves the extra trip to the gas station," says Christoph Erni, CEO and founder of Juice, adding: "The charging infrastructure required for this must be just as robust, flexible and reliable as a JUICE BOOSTER."

charging infrastructure in commercial and residential properties

Contracting for residential and office complexes was another important topic of the event. Participants gained insight into the idea behind this innovative approach and the benefits it offers, such as taking on operating expenses (OPEX) instead of capital expenditure (CAPEX). This gave decision makers inspiration and background for making informed decisions on energy management in multi-family homes and office buildings.

This year's Juice Power event provided a platform for sharing knowledge on current trends and for networking between industry and stakeholders. It also opened up new opportunities for collaboration in shaping more sustainable mobility.

About Juice Power

Juice Power AG is a subsidiary of the globally active Juice Technology AG. The company is driving forward real-time energy generation from hydropower and ensures that vehicle batteries can always be charged with verifiably clean electricity.
In 2016, Christoph Erni, founder and CEO of Juice Technology AG, together with Jörg Huwyler, Head of Hydro Energy and Biomass at Axpo, founded the independent association Eros Electric, which was transferred to Juice Power AG in 2022. Juice Power holds a sub-interest in the Frisal and Eglisau hydroelectric power plants and supports the expansion of hydroelectric power plants throughout Europe.
Clean energy that reaches the consumer at the same time as it is produced - that is the idea behind Juice Power. Certificates for ecologically generated electricity can be purchased from many electricity companies. But the electricity is only really green when it is fed into the grid at the same time as it is consumed.
