Die Philosophie des e-Drivings

The philosophy of e-Driving

Here we explain to all future (and even potential) electric car drivers what a miracle awaits them if they try "driving electric". It will trigger a metamorphosis in you. - Told using the Tesla Model S as an example, but equally valid for any other electric car. (This section is about the nitty-gritty. So it is written in the informal "you" form so that it touches your soul.)

Driving electric ...

... is a paradigm shift in your life

It doesn't matter whether you bought a Model S because you want to be particularly economical and environmentally friendly (although the equivalent of around 2.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km is quite reassuring for a stately sedan). Or whether you bought it because it catapults you to 100 in just over 3 seconds and you can beat any boring Audi pressed into sheet metal. Or whether you bought it because it simply looks outrageously good and makes you look not only successful but also progressive. No, the Model S will take you to new dimensions. It will influence your personal attitude and way of life, whether you want it or not. It will raise you to a higher level of quality. But you need some prior knowledge (which should actually come from Tesla, but what can you complain about).

Driving Electric ...

... is weightless

It's a state like from another world. Completely different to before: You no longer start slowly and laboriously, practically feeling how your rumbling combustion engine has to work hard to set the tons of iron and sheet metal in motion. No, in the Tesla you glide more quietly, more dignifiedly, more effortlessly than in a Rolls Royce. The cockpit is elegant and yet minimalist - luxury is in keeping with the spirit of the times. And it leaves room for your thoughts and personality. You are no longer cluttered with the superficial opulence of other brands that screams at you all day long "I want to be a premium car, but I'm actually over 100 years old technology".

Driving Electric ...

... you won't miss the awesome bubbling of your V8

Bubbling and misfiring have their charm. Especially in vintage cars. The hectic gear shifting with double-declutching is a great craft and a nice hobby. It's easy to do one and not leave the other. But in everyday life you quickly realize: The very fine ssssSS that you hear from your watermelon-sized electric motor on the rear axle of your Model S is better. It's reminiscent of the sound of a 100-fold silenced turbine - only the thrust is better. And you realize: Loud is a thing of the past.

Driving Electric ...

... is pure relaxation

With the Tesla Model S, you don't just drive - you glide. "Cruising" has arrived in the new millennium. The feeling of being rushed on the road disappears completely. You arrive twice as relaxed as before. This is certainly not just due to the silence, but also to the awareness that you have almost immeasurable reserves of energy at all times and can overtake a boring driver in no time at all (and therefore safely).

And the best part:

You never waste time refueling again. Because you always charge wherever you are anyway. At home, while eating, at a business meeting - or simply at the densely packed Tesla Superchargers. You take a 20-minute break every 300 km, sip a coffee and deal with the most urgent emails. Instead of driving through like before, arriving at your destination exhausted and then rushing to answer the emails that have been left behind, the journey is once again the destination for you. And when you arrive at the hotel, you can then stroll straight into the wellness area in complete relaxation.

And on the way home from your business meetings, you have a good excuse to choose a beautiful hill with a restaurant on top, dine there in the evening sun and reflect on the day while your Tesla charges. In the past, you would have rushed back to the office, later falling into bed dead tired and having no fun during the day - and at the end of the year you won't notice any difference in your cash anyway. But you will in your soul.

Don't switch until you're ready.

I am curious to hear about your experiences.

Sincerely, Christoph Erni.
