In order to become completely electric and emission-free by 2030, the car-sharing company Mobility is relying on strong partners and has brought Juice on board. In partnership with SBB, Juice is building charging stations at several Mobility locations. The first ten charging stations have been in operation on Europaallee near Zurich Central Station since the end of November 2020. Aarau followed shortly afterwards in December. In 2021, the Geneva Eaux-Vives and Morges locations were expanded, and more will be added gradually by 2023.
Mobility, the largest Swiss car sharing company, is converting its entire vehicle fleet to BEV by 2030. Since the company is a tenant and not the owner of its parking spaces, it is dependent on the site owners to support this transformation and provide the grid connection while Mobility installs its own charging solutions. In order to be able to reliably supply different e-car models with electricity at its locations throughout Switzerland, Mobility also needs a simple, uniform charging infrastructure. Juice Technology is contributing to the expansion to at least 300 charging points by 2023 with its chargers.
The smart AC charging stations convinced Mobility because they guarantee customers maximum convenience when using them. They are easy and intuitive to use, can be activated using the integrated RFID reader and have dynamic load management with which the charging processes can be centrally controlled and managed. Juice's charging stations and competent service have made waves, resulting in a cooperation with the SBB.
SBB and Mobility are driving forward decarbonization
The SBB is more than just a railway company. As a major real estate and service provider in Switzerland, it aims to develop train stations into attractive mobility hubs. Together with the car-sharing provider Mobility, it is already ensuring better connections between individual passenger transport and the railway. Both companies are pursuing ambitious sustainability goals. The SBB wants to be climate-neutral by 2030. It is therefore entirely in line with its aim that Mobility wants to electrify all of its 3,120 vehicles in the same period.
"Mobility approached us with the desire to use more electric cars and asked whether we, as Mobility's largest and most important location partner, would upgrade our parking spaces with electric charging stations. We were immediately convinced by the idea and offered to work together," says Julia Plümper, project manager for electric charging infrastructure at SBB. By 2023, SBB will therefore provide a total of 150 charging points for electric vehicles at some of the locations used by Mobility.
SBB paves the way for electric car sharing
In addition to suitable locations, Mobility relies on simple, standardized charging processes for the electrification of its fleet. The biggest hurdle in electric car sharing is therefore the development of a charging infrastructure that can reliably supply various electric car models with electricity. It was therefore a top priority to find a charging station manufacturer that already has relevant experience with large projects and can also respond flexibly to the individual needs and requirements of SBB and Mobility. In Juice Technology AG, SBB has found a competent partner.
"With Juice, we have chosen a Swiss charging station manufacturer that does everything in-house and can therefore respond quickly to our needs. Juice Technology supplies everything from a single source - in addition to software, hardware and backend, also the branding of the charging station and the RFID cards," Julia Plümper continues.
Convinced by the consistently good references and independent recommendations, SBB decided right from the start to expand to several locations and even dispensed with a classic proof of concept.
